UX Case Study: BioSoft Integrators Website Redesign
Project Overview
- Company: BioSoft Integrators (Acquired)
- Project Type: Corporate Website Redesign & Front-End Performance
- Timeline: May – Aug 2018
- Role: Lead UI/UX Designer & Web Developer
- Tools: Adobe XD, WordPress
- Project Status: Archived / Post-acquisition (Original website decommissioned following corporate acquisition)

The Context & Problem
BioSoft Integrators’ legacy website no longer reflected the technical caliber of its software solutions (LIMS, High-Performance Computing, and custom IT infrastructure). The site suffered from three critical problems:
1. Unclear Information Hierarchy: Visitors had to wade through disorganized pages to understand what the company actually built.
2. Outdated Visual Credibility: The interface looked like a legacy 2000s web presence, undermining confidence among biotech decision-makers.
3. Severe Performance & Search Lag: Unoptimized media assets, bloated scripts, and missing technical SEO meant high bounce rates and practically zero qualified organic traffic.
The goal was not just a cosmetic facelift, but a complete overhaul: structuring complex biotech offerings into an intuitive narrative, modernizing the UI, and rebuilding the front end to improve page speed and search rankings.
My Role & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Working directly with the Marketing Director, development leads, and gathering input from lab administrators, I led both the user experience strategy and the front-end execution:
Competitive Benchmarking: Analyzed direct competitors in bioinformatics and lab informatics to identify layout patterns, messaging gaps, and industry benchmarks.
Information Architecture & Sitemap: Consolidated fragmented offerings into clear product (LIMS, HPC) and service tracks (Software Development, IT Support).
UI Design & Design System: Designed reusable interface components in Adobe XD with clear typographic hierarchy, consistent spacing, and biotech-focused aesthetics.
Front-End Development & Optimization: Built the custom WordPress implementation, refactored page templates, compressed assets, and streamlined server response times.
Technical & On-Page SEO: Set up structured data, semantic heading tags (H1–H3), keyword-focused copy placement, and weekly ranking audits.

Key Design Challenges & Solutions
1. Balancing Dense Technical Info with Quick Scannability
Challenge: Lab directors, IT managers, and researchers visit looking for very specific technical requirements, while executive buyers need a high-level overview before diving deep.
Solution: Created a unified long-page storytelling structure with sticky contextual sub-navigation. In the «Applications» section, a clear drop-down instantly routed users to dedicated overviews without breaking the narrative flow, minimizing click friction.

2. Rebuilding Brand Trust for Enterprise Biotech
Challenge: The previous aesthetic felt disconnected from modern life-sciences tools, raising doubts about product maturity.
Solution: Replaced generic clip art and inconsistent typography with a structured UI system: high-contrast typography for legibility, functional whitespace, clear feature callouts, and tailored technical diagrams.

3. Front-End Bloat & Organic Visibility
Challenge: The old site had sluggish load times and was virtually invisible for high-intent search terms like «custom genomics LIMS».
Solution: Audited and resolved technical bottlenecks directly in code, optimized caching, compressed imagery, and integrated a semantic content framework aligned with target search intents.

Working Process
Rapid Review Sprints: Set up bi-weekly check-ins (every 3 days) with marketing leadership to review content drafts, layout hierarchy, and responsive breakpoints, ensuring design decisions supported business priorities.
Stakeholder Feedback Loops: Validated navigation and terminology against common questions and pain points raised during client discovery calls and lab administrator discussions.

Impact & Takeaways
Elevated Market Positioning: Transformed an outdated web presence into a clean, authoritative platform that accurately represented BSI’s technical capabilities.
Frictionless Discovery: Reduced navigation depth, allowing prospects to access relevant LIMS and HPC deployment details in fewer clicks.
Measurable Speed & Discoverability: Significantly improved PageSpeed scores and search indexing, resulting in higher qualified inquiries from lab managers and enterprise partners.
